The Blood Countess review – Isabelle Huppert reigns supreme in a surreal vampire fantasia

Vienna turns into a playground of camp, cruelty and aristocratic disdain in a blackly comic take on the Báthory legend – with Huppert gloriously suited to the title role From the dark heart of central Europe comes a midnight-movie romp through the moonlit urban glades of Euro-goth and camp from German director Ulrike Ottinger. Isabelle Huppert is Countess Elizabeth Báthory, 16th-century Hungarian noblewoman and serial killer, legendary for having the blood of hundreds of young girls on her hands and indeed her body, in an attempt to attain eternal youth. The “blood countess” has been variously played in the past by Ingrid Pitt, Delphine Seyrig, Paloma Picasso, Julie Delpy and many more, but surely none were as qualified as Huppert who importantly does not modify her habitual hauteur one iota for the role. Disney hikes streaming prices as Kimmel suspension fuels backlash

Company says Disney+, Hulu and ESPN price rises were planned before uproar over Kimmel’s suspension prompted calls to cancel

The Walt Disney Company, which has been recently making headlines since its 17 September decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show on ABC, said on Tuesday that it would be raising the price of its streaming services – including Disney+ and bundles that include Hulu and ESPN.

On 21 October, the cost of a Disney+ and Hulu package will increase from $10.99 to $12.99 while an ad-free plan with both will still cost $19.99. Plans with Disney+, Hulu and ESPN, with ads, were previously $16.99 and are soon to be $19.99, according to Disney’s website.
