A Gangster’s Life review – funny in parts, but not always deliberately

Despite some interesting visuals, not even Tony Cook and Jonny Weldon can lift this poorly produced tale of a pair of dodgy lads hiding in Greece from a gangster Here is an odd film about a couple of dodgy lads who get on the wrong side of a bona fide gangster and have to hide out in Greece. It’s not thoughtless per se; rather, it lacks the resources to bring its vision successfully to screen. Its quirks are sometimes appealing and sometimes amateurish and, while a mixture of influences swirl about, from Bond to Kingsman to Guy Ritchie and even Mission: Impossible, the film-makers don’t have the necessary budget, meaning that it feels at times like a TikTok parody of more expensive films. Acclaimed filmmaker Hansal Mehta has confirmed his next directorial venture, which will feature Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. This marks the first collaboration between the two, adding to the anticipation surrounding the project. Mehta revealed the news to Mid-Day on the sidelines of the Cinevesture International Film Festival in Chandigarh. He stated that the upcoming film is an adaptation of a book.

Hansal Mehta and Saif Ali Khan: A First-Time Collaboration Hansal Mehta, who last directed Kareena Kapoor Khan in The Buckingham Murders (2023), expressed his enthusiasm for working with her husband, Saif Ali Khan. The actor has long been on Mehta’s wish list of collaborators. While details about the book adaptation remain under wraps, the announcement has already generated buzz in the industry. Kareena Kapoor Khan Still on Mehta’s Radar Despite his new project with Khan, Mehta remains keen on reuniting with Kareena Kapoor Khan. He revealed that he has already sent a script to the actress and consistently considers her for roles. Praising her professionalism, Mehta stated, “Every time I look at a script, I ask, ‘Can we do something with Kareena?’ She is one of the most prepared persons on set, a thorough professional, and always happy. It was as if I was working with Pratik [Gandhi] or Rajkummar [Rao].” Hansal Mehta’s Busy Slate In addition to his upcoming film with Saif Ali Khan, Mehta has an array of exciting projects lined up. His much-anticipated web series Gandhi is in the pipeline, alongside an action film that was previously reported to feature Lakshya. While he confirmed the action project, he remained tight-lipped about the cast.

Mehta also recently launched his production house, setting multiple projects into motion. The filmmaker shared that he is producing an outrageous comedy, a slasher film, and is exploring the possibility of co-producing a zombie film. Additionally, he has an unusual love story in development, hinting at a dynamic mix of genres in his future ventures.
