An Ordinary Case review – Daniel Auteuil directs and stars in tense Ruth Rendell-ish crime procedural

A careworn husband is accused of murdering his wife in a story inspired by a real life case that dispenses with the genre’s familiar brutality Here is a fictionalised true crime drama, but one that is more stately and sedate than the garish procedural brutality of regular true crime. There is one gruesome crime-scene photo, but otherwise this could really have been based on something by Ruth Rendell. It is co-written and directed by its star Daniel Auteuil and the original French title is Le Fil (The Thread), after an incriminating thread of material found on the corpse – or perhaps it means the thread of logic behind a legal argument, the loose thread which, if pulled sufficiently, might cause the whole thing to collapse. The action is based on a case recounted by Jean-Yves Moyart , a criminal defence lawyer, who blogged under the name “Maître Mô” and who died in 2021. Dharma Productions signs Haneef Adeni for a non-stop bloody actioner

Dharma Productions signs Haneef Adeni, the director of the recent commercial & critical Malayalam cinematic success, Marco. The film promises to be a high impact actioner with a strong beating heart. Haneef has an impressive filmography to his name, starting from The Great Father in 2017 to Mikhael in 2019 and following with the success of the standalone spin off - Marco. While Haneef etched his niche with the gruesome relentless action film, he will be bringing his forte and a keen eye towards slick and real thrill that has audiences hooked.

Adeni is ready to lead this new film with Dharma Productions which is said to be made in Hindi and other languages too. Dharma Productions who have kickstarted 2025 with only positive steps towards expanding their cinematic journey, such as introducing their distribution wing and on the cusp of many releases lined up for the upcoming months, ranging in different genres. The onboarding of Haneef Adeni introduces a fresh wave of promising big screen action ahead for the production house. However, fans are now eagerly awaiting to know more about the film as the cast announcement too is being highly anticipated.

As of now, the production house is gearing up for the release of multiple projects which includes Kesari Chapter 2. The Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan, and Ananya Panday starrer is expected to be based on real-life events revolving around lawyer and statesman C. Sankaran Nair as it traces the aftermath of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. Besides that, it has Dhadak 2 starring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi in a powerful romantic drama inspired by the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal (2018). Along with the two, the production house also has Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari featuring Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, Maniesh Paul in key roles, in pipeline for release.
