Why F1 the Movie should win the best picture Oscar

It may not be in pole position, but Brad Pitt and director Joseph Kosinski’s sleek, technically inventive ode to motor racing definitely qualifies for the Academy podium Could, should, would F1 the Movie win the best picture Oscar? Well, we have to be realistic here: F1 is currently a massive outsider, at 200-1 along with The Secret Agent , which has no chance either but for very different reasons. It’s not hard to see why: this is a swaggeringly mainstream film, where tech and branding dwarf the human input, with the film itself acting as a front-end battering ram for a sports organisation desperate to break into the promised land of the US auto racing circuit. (I mean it’s right there in the title.) So even the most reactionary, conservative Academy voter is going to find it hard to mark F1 with their tick. So no, I don’t think it could win. That’s not to say F1 doesn’t have quite a bit going for it. The Oscars, as we know, have historically had a problem with so-called “popular” ...

Hema Malini takes holy dip at Maha Kumbh, laughs at Baba Ramdev's hair flip

Actor and Parliamentarian Hema Malini participated in the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj earlier this week, taking a dip in the holy Triveni Sangam on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. A video from the event has surfaced on social media, showing Hema Malini sharing a light moment as she laughs heartily at the antics of yoga guru Baba Ramdev.

The video captures a fun moment with several VIPs and devotees taking dips in the holy river, including Hema Malini. When it's Baba Ramdev's turn, someone unties his long hair, and as he flips it, his wet locks end up smacking people behind him—twice! Hema Malini can't help but burst into laughter at the amusing sight. It's definitely a light-hearted moment amidst the sacred rituals.

Alongside Hema Malini, several other celebrities participated in the grand Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, including Sunil Grover, Kabir Khan, Guru Randhawa, Avinash Tiwary, Mamta Kulkarni, and Anupam Kher. The event saw numerous devotees and VIPs taking part in the holy rituals.

The Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, will continue until February 26. Key upcoming 'snan' dates include February 3 (Basant Panchami—Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri). These significant dates will mark major rituals at the grand religious gathering.

Hema Malini shared her joy about participating in the Maha Kumb, “It is my good fortune that I got the opportunity to take a 'snan' on this auspicious day.”

“Renowned actress and Member of Parliament from Mathura (Uttar Pradesh), Hema Malini, held a spiritual meeting with Junapeethadhishwar Mahamandaleshwar Acharya Swami Avdheshanand Giri Ji Maharaj, also known as 'Pujya Prabhushri Ji' at the Prabhu Premi Sangh Kumbh Camp in Prayagraj and received his blessings,” the UP government said in a brief statement. The UP government also shared a couple of pictures of Malini with the seer.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the Maha Kumbh on Monday with his family, where he met Junapeethadhishwar Mahamandaleshwar Acharya Swami Avdheshanand Giri Ji Maharaj along with other seers. On the same day, 1.55 crore devotees took a holy dip at the Kumbh, bringing the total number of pilgrims who have participated to over 14.76 crore, according to the government.
