Solo Sunny review – a rueful East German gem of ambition, loneliness and faded dreams

Konrad Wolf’s 1980 drama follows a singer trying to escape the drab compromises of GDR life, capturing the melancholy of thwarted ambition with warmth and wit The terrible sadness, tattiness and poisoned idealism of the old GDR is preserved as if in a time capsule in this East German film from 1980; it could be a kind of B-side to Bob Fosse’s Cabaret. The heroine, would-be solo pop singer Sunny, is told by her ungallant MC that she is no Liza Minnelli; Cabaret fans might well incidentally recognise here the brusque German word “bumsen”. Solo Sunny is the work of Konrad “Koni” Wolf, a director with an impressive and strange pedigree: he was a garlanded state-sanctioned artist in East Germany, much admired at the Berlin film festival, whose older brother Markus happened to be one of the highest-ranking officials in the Stasi. Wedding to be! Britney Spears has commented on the rumors about her marriage

Britney announced the good news on social networks the other day: she and her fiancé Sam Asghari will soon become parents. The next day, the pop diva shocked fans with yet another confession by calling Sam "husband" in a published post. The words of the star were perceived unequivocally - the singer's fans decided that the lovers registered their marriage during the holidays in Mexico. However, a source close to the couple denied this information. An insider told HollywoodLife that the couple won't get married until after the birth of their first child together: "Britney and Sam have been calling each other 'husband' and 'wife' since they got engaged, but they're not officially married and want to wait until the baby is born. So they will have nine months to plan the celebration, but Britney is completely focused on the pregnancy." This pregnancy is the third and highly anticipated for the pop star. Under the guardianship of her father, Britney was forbidden to have children, and she was forced to take contraceptives constantly. Recall that in 2004, Britney Spears married dancer Kevin Federline, and three years later, the couple broke up. The ex-spouses have two sons: 16-year-old Sean and 15-year-old Jayden. "Britney's kids are very excited to hear that their mom is expecting a baby. She told them first, knowing that it would greatly affect their lives. The baby will have wonderful brothers, Britney believes," added a HollywoodLife source.
