Animol review – gritty young offenders drama challenges conventional machismo

Institutional menace and an idealistic take on redemption sit side-by-side in Top Boy actor Ashley Walters’ empathic and occasionally over-earnest film The lawless brutality of a young offender institution is the setting for this British movie written by Marching Powder ’s Nick Love and directed by Ashley Walters. It’s a place where terrified newbies realise they can survive only by abandoning their innocence and decency, and submitting to the gang authority of a psycho top G, naturally involving a horrible loyalty test. This is a place where drugs arrive by drone, where facially tattooed men meet each other’s gaze with a cool opaque challenge in the canteen, and where the cues and balls on the recreation area’s pool table have only one purpose: to give someone a three-month stay in the hospital wing while underpaid guards in lanyards and ill-fitting v-neck jumpers look the other way. Sunita Ahuja claps back at paparazzi over Govinda questions; asks, ‘Address de doon kya?’

Sunita Ahuja made a public appearance in Mumbai recently to cheer on her daughter, Tina Ahuja, who was walking the ramp at a fashion show. Accompanied by her son Harshvardhan Ahuja, Sunita was in attendance to support Tina’s moment on the runway. However, the evening took an uncomfortable turn when the paparazzi began asking repeated questions about her husband, veteran Bollywood actor Govinda.

While walking the ramp, one of the photographers called out to her, asking, “Govinda sir kahan par hai (Where is Govinda sir)?”. In response, Sunita made a ‘zip-it’ gesture’, clearly indicating that she didn’t want to entertain the question. The move left her son Harshvardhan chuckling, but the paparazzi continued to press her with questions about the 90s star’s absence. As the repeated queries persisted, Sunita’s mood visibly shifted. Irritated by the constant prodding, she eventually walked off the stage and snapped at the photographers, saying, “Address de doon kya (Should I give you the address)?”.

The interaction, caught on camera, has since gone viral on social media, with fans speculating whether there’s more to her reaction than meets the eye. This comes in the wake of recent reports about alleged marital discord between Govinda and Sunita. Last year, several media outlets reported that the couple was heading for divorce. Though neither Govinda nor Sunita have issued a formal statement on the matter, it was widely circulated. A lawyer close to the couple had confirmed that there were troubles in their marriage last year but also noted that they had later reconciled.

The fashion event, intended as a family moment in the spotlight for Tina Ahuja, was overshadowed by the paparazzi's focus on Govinda’s absence. The incident highlights the scrutiny star families continue to face, even during moments meant for celebration. As of now, neither Sunita nor Govinda have officially responded to the latest viral interaction. Whether it signals a deeper rift or simply a boundary being enforced remains to be seen.
