Ever since the Shaktimaan film adaptation was announced, fans of the popular TV show have been eagerly awaiting fresh updates related to its casting. Early reports suggested that Ranveer Singh would be playing the lead. However, the latest buzz suggests that it’s not Ranveer Singh, but Allu Arjun who may be seen playing the iconic character. A report by Bollywood Bubble quoted a source saying, “The highly ambitious Shaktimaan project is now set to be revived with Allu Arjun. Adding to the excitement, Basil Joseph, who impressed audiences and critics alike with the Malayalam superhero film Minnal Murali, has been roped in to direct the mega venture. He is currently in talks with Allu Arjun to play Shaktimaan. The much-talked-about project is backed by Sony Pictures. While all eyes were on Netflix’s head honcho Ted Sarandos interviewing Sanjay Leela Bhansali, another interview, this time the one that was kept away from the public domain for now, had Karan Johar interviewing Ted Sarandos. This happened at a party that Netflix hosted for Sarandos on Saturday night. An invitee reports, “Karan Johar conducted a 15-minute interview with Ted. Karan’s questions were all improvised and so were all of Ted’s answers. They spoke about the Hindi film industry and its changing dynamics and economics. They also did a photoshoot together.” Why has this talk not being made public as yet? The Portable Door review – Harry Potter-ish YA fantasy carried by hardworking cast

Jeffrey Walker’s adaptation of the young-adult fantasy novel retains its edge thanks to its performances, but gets stuck on the whole door thing Adapted from Tom Holt’s 2003 young-adult fantasy novel, this is a passable attempt at kickstarting a new Harry Potter-style franchise set in a fusty-quirky institution, dosed up with extra Gilliamesque grotesquery. Co-produced by the Jim Henson Company, the production design is poky and intense, and the cast – with Christoph Waltz and Sam Neill larking it up – give it their all. But amid all this clutter, it sometimes has trouble moving its story forward. The Portable Door has a nice conceit: the venerable London corporation of JW Wells & Co is responsible for engineering all the daily incidents of coincidence and serendipity that happen in urban life.
